“I love working with architects and engineers — they’re honest, intelligent, and creative — and they improve the world for all of us”
Mark C. Zweig is best known as the leading expert in management for the architecture, engineering, planning, and environmental industry. With more than three decades as a student of the industry, Mark knows architecture, engineering, and environmental consulting firms inside and out. He started his career in a management consulting firm specialized in the construction and development industries, and then worked as a principal and manager in two A/E and environmental firms. He founded Mark Zweig & Associates in 1988, which later became ZweigWhite in 1994 and Zweig Group in 2014.
Mark has worked with AEC firms of virtually all sizes and types throughout the U.S. and abroad, and helped them solve just about every problem—from strategic business planning, to turnarounds, to partner separations, to organizational restructuring, to mergers and acquisitions, to reenergizing marketing, to dealing with cash flow crises, solving tricky ownership transition scenarios, and more.
Mark is a widely published writer on AEC firm management, having authored 12 books, including Management from A to Zweig; Human Resources Management: The Complete Guidebook for Design Firms (the first and only hardcover text on this topic), Management Ideas That Work!, More Management Ideas That Work!, Even More Management Ideas that Work!, Still More Management Ideas that Work!, and a series of New Management Ideas that Work! Since 1992, thousands of leaders of A/E and environmental consulting firms have turned to his editorials in The Zweig Letter each week for information, insight, and inspiration.
Mark sits on the BOD’s of several different privately-held AEC firms, ranging from $10 million to $200 million in annual revenues. He also teaches entrepreneurship at The Sam M. Walton College of Business and teaches a class on “Everything they don’t usually teach you in architectural school” in the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas. He was previously on the board of directors of the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce.
Mark received both his MBA (1980) and BS in Organizational Behavior (1979) from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois. He was named to the SIU-C College of Business Hall of Fame in 1992, elected to the College of Business Board of Advisors in 1999, and named Chairman of the Advisory Board in 2002.
He is an avid vintage car and motorcycle collector and restorer. He has owned more than 300 cars and 250 motorcycles in the last 40 years. When younger, he was involved in a wide variety of motorcycle racing activities. In later years, he has organized and run a number of events for CEOs of AEC firms at automobile and motorcycle racing schools. He is also involved in several ventures including his successful development/design/residential contracting business, Mark Zweig, Inc.
